Casting models are produced using EPS particle foam by hot-gluing several layers together until the foam model is an exact copy of the part to be produced from aluminum. The foam parts are smoothed out and the encompassed in sand casting ladles, ready to receive molten aluminum. The EPS is burned out as the aluminum takes its place. This process produces a high-precision component as required by engine manufacturers.
